Description

A natural riven black slate tile in a rectangular 60x40 format.

Sealing and maintenance

Due to the porosity of natural stone, they do require sealing. They need to be given a few coats before grouting and a further coat after to ensure they are well-protected. To keep the tiles their natural colour you can use the LTP Mattstone, but if you require to slightly deepen the colour, the LTP Colour Intensifier can be used as an alternative. To increase the longevity of the seal, ongoing maintenance and cleaning can be carried out using the LTP Waxwash.

Please note that these tiles can vary between 7-12mm thick due to their nature. We suggest grading your tiles prior to fitting.

What is the recommended joint widthOur Advice

Hi Ian For floor tiles, the recommended minimum ground joining width is 3mm, however, with the rustic characteristics of natural slate, it is likely you will have slightly larger grout lines due to the fact these tiles are uncalibrated. Kind Regards Walls and Floors

Hi Sam These tiles can be used in a bathroom/wetroom however they don't have an anti-slip surface and as a natural stone product they will need sealing and maintenance, these guides are listed below Due to the porosity of natural stone the do require sealing. The need to be given a few coats before grouting and a further coat after to ensure they are well protected. Hi For the purposes of ordering the ltp Mattstone sealant would these tiles come under Higher porosity or lower porosity? Our Advice

Hi Paul These tiles are natural stone and haven't been pre-treated so are classed a high porosity. In our experience, these tiles will require 2 coats of sealer before grouting, but we also recommend a further coat of sealer after grouting, to seal the grout an ensure the tiles are fully protected. Can these be used to build a fire place hearth? or do you suggest another slate productOur Advice

Hi Robert, Most slate products are naturally heat resistant and these are no exception so will be fine for a hearth or burner surround. We would recommend fixing with the Palace Heat Resist adhesive, sealing with the LTP Colour Intensifier before grouting with the Norcros 4 Into 1 Grout: https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/palace-heat-resistant-tile-adhesive-10-kg https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/ltp-cleaning-protecting-ltp-tile-colour-intensifier-11264 https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/norcros-4-into-1-grout Regards Walls And Floors
